Nick Cox Architects was established in 2006 and is based in north Oxfordshire. The practice also has offices in London and Frome, Somerset. The practice specialises in the repair and conservation of historic buildings and the design of new buildings in historic contexts.

Projects - Country Houses

Kedleston Hall, Kedleston, Derbyshire

Listing status: Grade I

Kedleston Hall is ‘one of the earliest and greatest works of Robert Adam’. Sir Nathaniel Curzon (later 1st Lord Scarsdale) began the house in 1759 first working with Matthew Brettingham, and then with James Paine. Towards the end of 1758 Adam was taken on to work on the park landscape and garden buildings; he then progressed to working on the house itself.

Nick Cox has been involved at Kedleston Hall from 1994 and, on his own account, since forming Nick Cox Architects in 2006. Various projects at the property have included:

- Three Quinquennial inspections on the house and park and garden buildings

- Structural repairs to the cantilevered stone staircases

- Repair of the ha-ha walls under a HLS grant scheme

- Repair and restoration of The Hermitage.

- Long term monitoring and investigation of the Marble Hall ceiling and floor

- Roof works to the Marble Hall roof lights and adjacent slate and lead roof coverings

- Internal fire precaution works

- Structural work the churchyard walls
