Chamber’s Gate, Blenheim Palace

Client: Blenheim Estate

Building Period: 18th Century

Listed Status: Grade II

Construction Value: £60,000

Designed by Sir William Chambers, this 18th Century gateway was in a very poor state of disrepair. In addition to the deteriorating stonework, rooting plants were pushing apart the individual stones of the masonry pediment, a large tree root was creating a large bulge in the brick wall and the whole gateway was leaning away from the wall.

Nick Cox Architects oversaw the repair of the Chamber’s gate which involved the replacement of some stones and bricks and the partial rebuild of the gateway to remove the lean.
