Pippa Smith MA, DipArch, MArch, ARB

Pippa Smith is an Architect and former SPAB Lethaby Scholar who has worked in practices specialising in contemporary design and has a particular interest in combining new work with historic buildings.

Pippa has been working with Nick Cox Architects since 2009, prior to that she worked for an award winning contemporay design practice in London. Pippa has a particular interest in contemporary design in historic settings, low carbon and the deep retrofit of existing buildings.

From 2011 - 2019 Pippa was project architect for the
HLF funded Exhibition Spaces in the South Transept of Winchester Cathedral. The project involved significant new design work including a lift, mezzanine floor and staircase as well as meticulous conservation work. The project has been widely published and received a number of awards including a RIBA National Award in 2021.

Pippa is currently working on a variety of projects at NCA, both new build and conservation work including a deep retrofit and extension to a house in Herefordshire. Pippa is also renovating and extending her own home in Somerset and working towards completing the AEBC Carbonlite retrofit training.

Pippa has been a part time design tutor at The Welsh School of Architecture since 2019. She leads a second year design studio focusing on deep retrofit, conservation and creative reuse of existing building which complements and contributes to her work in practice at NCA.
