Blenheim Palace - Terracotta Statues

Back to Current Projects
The six terracotta statues that formerly stood on the parapet either side of the North Portico have been conserved. The terracotta was in a fragile state, suffering from multiple fractures and surface decay. Each statue was dismantled into around 200 separate fragments that were then reassembled. Moulds were taken from the conserved figures from which new casts were made. The newly cast figures have been reinstated on the parapet – restoring the skyline – and the conserved figures have been given a more sheltered location in the north forecourt colonnade niches.
